Classes

For the past decade Triangulo has been and continues to be New York City's only dance studio exclusively dedicated to Argentine tango. And it is the favorite starting place of novice dancers! Our classes are kept small (8-10 couples), and focus on individual attention in a stress-free learning atmosphere where our students are not required to bring a partner, and switching partners during class is encouraged.

Carina Moeller teaches or oversees all of the classes. Classes are generally assisted so that students can see both the leader's and follower's roles. Our programs of instruction are designed to get you dancing in no time!

New classes start each month. Classes meet once a week for four weeks. See below for class-content details. Our classes are organized into Three Exciting Programs of instruction for new and seasoned dancers

Crash Course for Beginners

The Crash Course for Beginners is the doorway into the delights of tango dancing. If you have never danced Argentine tango before, this program is designed for you! With our guided & structured instruction, supported by a relaxed practice space, we will get you dancing in no time! This program will prepare you to advance into the discovering tango stage. Students wanting a faster start are encouraged to take both the Tuesday and Thursday classes and to attend the weekly milonguita.

Level 1: Beginner -- Tuesdays @ 6:30pm or Thursdays @ 7:30pm
New to Argentine tango? We'll get you dancing in no time! You are not expected to know anything about tango or about partner dancing, and you don't need to bring a partner. You will learn: Basic walking, basic lead and follow, fundamental tools for navigating around the dance floor and how to lead the "cross". This class is also useful for students who have taken just a couple classes and want to perfect their basics! Students wanting a faster start are encouraged to take both the Tuesday and Thursday classes and to attend the weekly milonguita.

Discover Tango Program

The Discover Tango Program is the stage where the basic skills you have acquired here at TriANGulO, or elsewhere, allow you to discover the astonishing variety of steps and movements that make Argentine tango the most intricate and sensual of partner dances. This is where the fun begins! This program will develop your skills and confidence, allowing you dance and have fun at the various tango venues in the city. It provides a dedicated milonga class and a technique class. Watch out, before you know it you might be out dancing 3 to 5 times a week!!

Level 2: Advanced Beginner -- Wednesdays @ 7:30pm
This level is for students who have taken at least one month of classes. You will learn: Walking, lead and follow, musicality, front and back "ochos", "ocho cortado", and "media vueltas". You are welcome to take this class in combination with the Advanced-Beginner Technique on Thursdays. Most students spend about three months of at this level before moving onto the next level.

Level 2: Advanced Beginner Technique -- Thursdays @ 6:30pm
This class focuses on the technical elements of the dance such as posture, balance, partner communication, axis awareness, and connectivity. These elements will help you be a more effective leader or follower, and add some polish to the steps you are learning. Students in either the Advanced Beginner or Pre-Intermediate class are encouraged to take this class as well. It's also a great class for leaders who want to learn to follow, or followers who want to learn to lead.

Level 3: Pre-Intermediate -- Wednesdays @ 8:30pm
This level is for students who have taken at least four months of classes. Here, while improving your leader-follower communication, you will learn: Variations of the basic patterns, countering front and back "ochos", "molinetes", and basic "sacadas". Most students spend about three months of at this level before moving onto the next.
