Explore the fanciful places changes of direction, rebotes, and contra body movements can take you. Learn how to generate and follow inside ganchos, low boleos, front boleos, and more, and then learn how to apply your new moves with exquisite musicality. Intermediate level, partner suggested. This is a two-part series. You are encouraged to take both, however, each part may be taken individually.

Beginners’ Tango Toolkit (Beginner +)

Meant for the beginning tanguera/tanguero, this workshop will teach you everything you need to know to get out on the social dance floor and have fun! Immersing yourself in the world of Argentine tango is about more than just steps– here, in addition to learning the different rhythms you will hear through the night at any milonga, you will learn the social codes that are based in the culture and history surrounding Argentine tango. These social codes, or codigos, are universal in the tango community. Whether you dance in New York, Buenos Aires, Paris, or Portland, knowing how to use the cabaceo, what are tandas and cortinas– and even “the penalty box” –will help you feel at home at any milonga.

Turns with Sacadas (Intermediate)

Highly-sought tango instructors Nick Jones and Diana Cruz will teach you everything you need to know to explore turns with sacadas. They teach using their method of “natural tango,” incorporating both an understanding of body mechanics and a playful creativity to give you the tools to learn how to combine turns with sacadas and develop your own combinations afterward.

Performance Workshop with Carolina Jaurena & Andres Bravo (Intermediate)

Learn and perfect an original choreography by accomplished performers Carolina Jaurena and Andres Bravo. This class meets every Monday night for 6 weeks 8:30-10:00. Directly after each class, you will have 45 minutes of self-guided rehearsal time in the studio. A partner is required for this class, and you must be available for both the dress rehearsal and performance.

For $210 you will receive a total of 9 hours of class with internationally recognized performers Carolina Jaurena and Andres Bravo plus 6.75 hours of reserved rehearsal time.

Depending on the availability of the group, EITHER July 2 OR July 23 will be a class. The other will be unguided group rehearsal time. We wanted to allow some flexibility for your summer plans.

Key Dates:
• 6/11 First day of class
• 7/18 Dress rehearsal at the Practica (Wednesday)
• 7/23 Last day of class/rehearsal
• 7/24 Performance at the Tuesday Milonga (Tuesday)
