Dear Tango friend, here's the latest Tango news from the only exclusively tango school in NY, Triangulo!
In addition to the Tuesday and Wednesday evening Tango classes taught by Carina Moeller, known for her devoted teaching style, Triangulo is happy to announce a new class in the Milonga to be taught by Alec Zaballero on Friday nights starting February 2nd.
Alec's new class, entitled "Milonga 101: Making the Milonga Work for You", will be taught at the intermediate/advanced level. It is intended for dancers who are already dancing milonga socially but want to develop the richness of their dance and their ability to express themselves on the dancefloor.
Alec Zaballero may be familiar to people as the DJ at Triangulo's Tuesday dance and at Chelsea Market on Saturdays, and as an active NYC social dancer. As such he brings to the class an intimacy with the music and his own particular experience.
Alec explains, "The milonga is a different creature from the tango -- it has a markedly different lead and follow which is really driven by the quick tempo and unique beat. You can really start to negotiate the floor and play with figures and rhythm if you learn the difference."
"I've spent a lot of time both learning and working out for myself the technique of the milonga, especially as it relates to getting out of jams on the dance floor.", Alec continues. "I mean, who hasn't found themselves in a milonga jam? I'm excited at the prospect of teaching this technique."
"So I'll be teaching key concepts in lead and follow and then figures that use these concepts. I'll especially teach figures that are useful on the dancefloor in some way -- they keep you in place, or travel, or turn you."
We look forward to seeing you at our new Milonga class!
The class will be taught on Fridays from 7:30 to 8:30pm. It is priced the same as regular Triangulo classes and can be combined with these.
Have you checked out the Milonguita on Friday nights? This is our new BYO event from 8:30pm to 11:30pm on Friday nights. Come dance the early evening at Triangulo, and then head over to La Belle Epoche where you'll get a door discount with your Triangulo ticket.
