you will be hooked). So drop by the studio (135 West 20th St, 3rd Fl)
and try out an hour of Argentine Tango to see what you think. If you
like it (you will) you can sign up for one of our regular

See our home
page for dates and times of upcoming Absolute Beginner Workshops.
Current Special: Just $70 for a month-long class (only for new to
Triangulo students; cash/check only, no credit cards).
Current Extra Special: If you sign up for a month-long class the same
day you take the Absolute Beginner Workshop, you also get a free
practice cd of tango music! (While supplies last of course.)
Eduardo Goytia and Carina Moeller.
Ed and Carina taught HOLD ON: Stops, Pauses &
endings to a packed room.
Steven Cook & Carina Moeller.
Steven and Carina taught two new workshops. First
Spirals: a PNF stretching pattern by Irene Dowd.
Spirals is a floor pattern choreographed by anatomist Irene Dowd that
finds concentric and eccentric stretch for every muscle in the body
excluding the face. Then they taught
Milonga: How to make milonga the most fun of all
the dances
Eduardo Goytia & Carina Moeller. Eduardo & Carina taught two
great workshops:
Tango Confiteria: Rhythmic Tango for the masses and
Tango High: Hops, lifts & jumps.
Korey & Mila.
We had an excellent musicality workshop with Korey & Mila
on Tuesday May 8, 2007.
Isaac Oboka taught a sacadas workshop
(I come, you go!) and a soltadas workshop
(Look mom, no embrace!).
Isaac's quest for the heart of tango just took him
to Buenos Aires for two months. On his way back to Colorado, he
stopped by NYC to dance and teach. Isaac is a young, creative, and
dynamic dancer known for his clear and insightful teaching. His tango
path has been influenced by many people including Nick Johns, Alex Krebs,
Jaimes Friedgen and Homer Ladas. He has a strong traditional background
and is now exploring the dangers and excitement of new possibilities
and ideas that tango has to offer.
Korey & Mila
taught a great workshop: "Articulation - music in every movement".
This workshop was for all levels and everyone got something out of it.
Korey & Mila are masters o musicality.
Homer
& Charity.
Homer and Charity taugh a "Tango Games" workshop for all levels. What
are Tango games? Well,
think of this workshop as the
spoonful of sugar that helps the medicine go down. You will work on tango
skills such as balance, creativity and connection through a variety of
playful exercises led by the masters of tango games, Homer and Charity.
Learn activities you can use later to practice with a partner. Have a
more equal dose of concentration and laughter - tango is supposed to be
fun, remember?
Andrew Moe.
A former partner of Carina's known for his dynamic, personal approach to
teaching, Andrew returns to New York after three years on the west coast.
He is a student of Pablo Veron, Fabian Salas, Guastavo Naveira, Michael
and Luren, and other masters throughout the US and Argentina. He taught
two workshops at the studio in March, teaching
the earthy art of Milonga, the upbeat dance that gave birth
to the tango. These workshops focused on the unique nature of the
milonga beat and how this music drives the dance -- from double time
steps to staccato rhythm, to a more grounded, expressive walk.
Moti
is an organic tango dancer who lives
in LA. Using his extensive martial arts background and naturally
creative disposition, he is an excellent and innovative tango dancer.
In workshops, he generally focuses on seemingly basic movements and
then encorporates them into exciting new steps. He has taught popular
workshops a couple times at Triangulo, including one on soltadas and
resbladas.
Jaimes Friedgen & Rachel Smith
from Seattle taught a workshop on
"Connection And Interaction".
Jaimes and Rachel are great dancers,
great people, and great teachers. The workshop they taught at the
Portland TangoFest was, well, inspired and inspiring. Come learn
something fresh and fun with Jaimes and Rachel.
Mario Consiglieri
is an innovative and dynamic teacher. He has taught workshops here on
voleos, colgadas, volcadas, etc.
Mario focuses on 'body mechanics', teaching you how to move in
such a way that you can do all of the groovy moves you see around town.
He is articulate and intense -- and he WILL improve the quality of
your dance.
A weekend with Gaston Gago.
A weekend of tango workshops with Gaston Gago, direct from Buenos Aires
with the latest tango developments. These workshops are for dancers
looking for new elements to incorporate into their dance. Each workshop
will involve a deep technical overview. Gaston's style is traditional
with lots of figures and steps to have fun with. He will be teaching
Tango Combinations With Rebounds, Turns With Saccadas Changing
Roles, and Milonga Traspie Workshop.
LiquidTango Workshop with
Caleb Cain Marcus and Ting
Chin: "Liquefy your embrace...
using colgadas and saccadas...
to move from open to close."
Caleb and Ting are beautiful dancers and intense performers, but,
more importantly for your dance-edification, they are insightful and
creative teachers. You walk away from a workshop by Caleb and Ting
with a better understanding of tango and your dancing of it.
Organic Tango with Homer
and Cristina...
"From a close embrace Ocho Cortado to an open embrace Colgada
via a beautiful Detour!"
Homer and Cristina are fabulous people, fabulous dancers, and fabulous
teachers from San Francisco. They emphasize connection and natural movements when they
teach. They work with open embrace and close embrace, focusing on
adding new and improved elements to your dance in which the follower
and the leader both play a role. They call it "organic tango" which
is a philosophy of open mindedness -- of accepting everybody else's
style/technique/music and finding those elements that work for you.
Pulpo y Luiza.
Pulpo and Luiza from Buenos Aires taught great workshops at Triangulo.
Pulpo has over 10 years professional experience as a dancer, teacher,
and choreographer; his nickname meaning 'octopus' derives from his use
of complex leg displacements. They are amazing dancers and delightful
teachers. Workshops included "Old steps that nobody remembers", "New
milonguero steps", "Combinations with sacadas", "Pulpo's creations",
and much more!
BIG volcadas: flashy moves for close embrace with
Robin Thomas
and
Jennifer Bratt.
Robin and Jennifer are super enthusiastic teachers sometimes describing
themselves as "missionaries". Part of the new nuevo milonguero
generation, they combine concepts borrowed from tango nuevo with the
milonguero style embrace. They are way big into floorcraft, musicality
and connecting with your partner. They teach eminently usable elements
for social dancers. "Everything we do can be done on a crowded floor
without hurting yourselves or anyone else".
Advanced Tango with
Murat.
Murat is a smooth and creative dancer who teaches in the DC area.
He will be teaching a workshop with Carina on understanding
the irregular directions of movement. Huh? Sounds interesting!
Musicality & Milonga Workshops with
Alex Krebs.
Alex Krebs is an inspired dancer who lives in Portland and teaches all
over the world. We were delighted to have him teach at triangulo as
part of the
tango weekend.
His workshops and DJing were amazing -- can't wait to have him back!
The Dynamics of the Hang with Santiago Steele.
After a brief ballet/jazz stretch warm-up, Santiago and Carina will
break down the dynamics of Colgadas or "hangs", a hallmark of the
ever-popular, exceedingly challenging and thrillingly elusive 'Tango
Nuevo' or open style (which all the hep tango cats are dancing these
days.) Do we all want to know How To Hang? Of course we do! Santiago has
studied extensively with the Maestros - Gustavo, Chicho, Pablo et al -
and promises to bring us a fresh new way to incorporate shared axis
turns into our dancing.
Milonga Workshops with
Angel Garcia.
Your tango is doing fine, but your milonga could use some help? Then come
to our milonga workshops! The first workshop ("Basic Milonga Floorcraft")
is designed for those with very little milonga experience, followed by
a more advanced workshop ("Advanced Milonga: Fun and Syncopation").
Angel is a New York based performer and dancer with a wonderfully
expressive and unique style.
Tango Musicality Workshop with Pablo Aslan from the New
York Tango Trio. This workshop helps dancers develop an awareness of
the musical elements of tango. Unlike other dance music, tango does
not rely on drums to communicate its beat. Rather, the beat is inside
the orchestra, shared by all the instruments. After this workshop you
will never hear tango music the same way. We'll take you inside a tango
orchestra and share the secrets of tango musicians and arrangers. Through
rhythmic exercises, counting, clapping, and stepping on and off the beat,
you'll discover the elusive nature of tango rhythm.
Flexibility & Balance for Tango Dancers with Carina Moeller.
These technique
workshops aim to increasing your level of control as a dancer!
Some Past Workshops and Events
Jim & Linda Gucciardo. Jim & Linda taught a series of
milonga and canyengue workshops in December.
This included
milonga and traspie for the social and crowded dance floors. Also rythm
changes
and variations.
Canyengue is the precursor of Milonga and Tango and is now having a rebirth
in
popularity in Buenos Aires.
Carlos & Tova
Moreno.
Carlos & Tova are amazing dancers (musical, dynamic, deep),
amazing teacher (articulate, silly, insightful), and just all around
amazing people (friendly, funny, story-full).
They delighted us with two workshops.
First was
Follower's Technique
(Students will practice the following skills
(pun intended): steps, pivots, ochos, turns, boleos, and some
embellishments. Both roles use similar movements such as hip/torso
dissociation, balance, and sensitivity to information from your partner,
so leaders who want to improve are welcome, too!)
and then we had The Perfect Turn
(Refine and enhance your turning technique in both
close and open embrace to open the doors to all sorts of fun. We'll
explore some of these fun possibilities.) And then we all had a
little milonguita to practice what we had learned.
