Teachers

(1) Debra Crampton: Alexander Technique for Tango Dancers.

Debra began her study of the Alexander Technique in 1972 while obtaining her degree in music (oboe) performance. Tango is one of several arts of partnership Debra uses to explore the power of connection, ease of movement, body awareness, and synergy. A sixth degree black belt, she teaches aikido at the New York Aikikai.

Class Description – Enhance your Tango Technique with the Power of Ease Explore the application to tango of the universal principle of body use discovered by F.M. Alexander. Learn how to direct awareness to transform tension into tone and restore natural coordination and alignment, resulting in a more finely-tuned “instrument” to bring to your dancing, and your daily actvites as well! Kinesthetic re-education through verbal and hands-on guidance

(2) Jeni Breen: Floor Barre for Tango Dancers

Jeni is a long time practitioner of, and a Certified Instructor in, Floor Barre™️-And she has been dancing and teaching Tango since it first appeared in NYC.

Class Description - The dancer’s “secret weapon”, Floor Barre™️ helps develop a more lengthened body with a strong core and elegant lines through the back and legs. For good Tango we know that an engaged core, a confident step, and a comfortable embrace are extremely important-for beautiful Tango a lifted center and clear lines through the legs create more freedom of expression as well as feel (and look!) wonderful. The individual alignment work done in Floor Barre™️ helps you develop all of this. The work leads to better balance and an embrace that is supported by your back so that it is fluid and connected to your partner.Done primarily on the floor on your back, sides, and stomach Floor Barre™️ allows you to work deeply in your own body. After a Floor Barre™️ class, when we stand up and begin to dance, we are more in touch with ourselves and thus more available to our Tango partnership. For this workshop please bring a pair of socks and wear clothing that allows you a FULL range of motion while moving on the floor.
